Alcoholic Drinks

What's on the menu?

Colorado Slush

  • 1 c apricot brandy

  • 1 c vodka

  • 1 can(s) pineapple juice, 46 oz.

  • 1 can(s) can frozen pink lemonade, 6 oz.

  • 1 can(s) frozen orange juice, 6 oz.

  • Sprite, 7-up or any lemon-lime soda

I double this recipe, always. Gather the ingredients.

Simply put all ingredients into a large bowl and whisk together. No need to thaw frozen juices as the alcohol and pineapple juice will thaw them as you whisk. Put into airtight container (allow 1 inch of air space) and freeze overnight.

To serve: Place two ice cream scoops of icy yummy slush into a stemmed goblet or any pretty glass and top with a splash or more of your favorite lemon-lime type soda for ease of sipping immediately (ie: Sprite, 7-up.)

Add a straw and decorate with an orange slice and a cherry over the edge of the glass.

Summer Slush

  • 2 ½ cups bourbon

  • 1 quart ginger ale

  • 1 (30-oz) can pineapple juice

  • 1 (6-oz) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed and undiluted

  • 1 (6-oz) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed and undiluted

  • 3-4 cups lemon-lime carbonated beverage

  • Lime slices, pineapple spears and maraschino cherries for garnish

Combine bourbon, ginger ale, pineapple juice, orange juice and lemonade in a large plastic bowl. Freeze to a slush. To serve scoop 1/3 cup of slush into a tall glass. Pour in 1/3 cup carbonated beverage. Garnish with lime slices, pineapples and cherries.

Yield: 10 to 12 servings

Andrea Farrell’s Amaretto Slush Punch

Andrea was one of my Crump Elementary Bunco buddies and she loved to try out new recipes on us. It is easy to keep the slush in the freezer (the alcohol doesn’t freeze completely) and make one drink at a time as desired. Delicious!

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 4 ½ cup water

  • 1 (6 ounce) frozen lemonade, thawed

  • 1 (6 ounce) frozen orange juice, thawed

  • 1 cup amaretto

  • Sprite or 7-Up

Bring sugar and water to boil. Reduce the heat, simmer 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Add lemonade, orange juice, and amaretto. Mix well. Freeze overnight in a large plastic container.

To serve, fill a glass ½ full of slush, then add Sprite or 7-Up.

Bourbon Slush

One of my favorite party drinks to make and so easy and convenient. Keep in the fridge when not in use and add a little mixer on top like ginger ale or 7-Up, if desired. It tastes like a frozen whiskey sour.

  • 2 teabags

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1½ cups water

  • 2/3 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed

  • ½ cup bourbon

  • 1/3 cup frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed

Steep tea bags in the cup of boiling water 2-3 min; remove the tea bags.

Stir in sugar and add remaining ingredients. Mix until the sugar is dissolved.

Pour into freezer containers and freeze until firm. Remove from freezer approximately 10 minutes before serving. Spoon into cocktail glasses and garnish with lemon wedges if desired. Keep unused portion in freezer until needed.

Mudslide

This drink is in honor of the graduating senior class of 2000 members Sammie, Colleen, and Blair and their senior trip to Grand Cayman. My darling brother and sister in love, Rex and Karen Crane, hosted them for several days. They enjoyed the delights of the island, stingrays, snorkeling, and general merrymaking. But what they refused to tell me about was the consequences of Karen's famous Mudslides. I understand a shower was involved, but everyone's lips are still sealed. Karen's drink is fabulous and renowned.

  • 1 oz Vodka

  • 1 oz Kahlua

  • 1 oz Baileys Irish Cream

  • 1 oz milk, cream, or scoop ice cream

  • 1 cup ice

  • Chocolate syrup (optional)

Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the Mudslide into a Martini or Hurricane glass. If desired, drizzle with chocolate syrup or add to mix before blending.

Additional add-ins: butterscotch schnapps.

"The Dave" Slushie

In honor of my dear son-in-law.

  • 2 (2 liters) of Mountain Dew

  • 12 oz. can frozen lemonade

  • 12 oz. can frozen orange juice

  • 12 oz. can frozen pineapple juice

  • 2 cups of gin

  • 2 cups of vodka

Mix all together in a large freezer safe container and freeze 24 hours. During the freezing process, occasionally stir to keep the alcohol distributed. It will not completely freeze due to the alcohol. Scoop out with large spoon or ice cream scoop into desired size serving cups. May need to eat with a spoon at first.

Pink Party Punch

When Patti Russell, our fifth principal at Chimneyrock, transferred to another school, we “Rocks” had a going away party at her house. The table inside was laden with goodies, but the party was out by the pool. I brought this drink because it is so easy to mix up a batch, pretty and so delicious and refreshing.

  • 6 pack of Beers (I prefer to use Corona Light)

  • 1 can frozen Pink Lemonade concentrate

  • Vodka

Fill your punch bowl or drink jar with ice, pour in the beers, add the lemonade concentrate and stir (TIP: Leave your lemonade sitting out for a bit before mixing up this drink, if it’s a little defrosted, it will stir in easier). Fill the empty lemonade can with vodka, stir in and enjoy!

It’s a super delicious beverage and can be made for really cheap – because of the pink lemonade concentrate, it’s really not necessary to use top-shelf liquor or beer.

St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur Cocktail

When my student teacher and fellow grad student, Emily Dilner Moseley, got married this was her bride's drink.

  • 2 shots Sauvignon Blanc wine

  • 2 shots St. Germain liqueur

  • Top up champagne or Sprite

  • (Emily topped with orange juice)

Pour wine and then St. Germain into ice-filled 12 oz. glass. Top with o.j., Sprite or champagne, lightly stir, garnish with half of an orange slice and serve with straws.

Beergarita AKA Mambo Margarita

This recipe comes from the book "The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love: A Fallen Southern Belle's Look at Love, Life, Men, Marriage, and Being Prepared" by Jill Conner Browne. She is from Jackson, Mississippi and she and her old high school buddies decided to dress up in old green prom dresses and enormous red wigs, ride in the St. Pat's day parade, and chunk sweet potatoes at people in the crowd. Then go drinking afterwards. She's a stand-up comedian and her hilarious book became a bestseller in 1999. I was working evenings, weekends, and summers at Barnes and Noble. Sammie was at Steinmart with Colleen, working the help desk and Haden was at Bass Pro selling camo and rifles. My dear friend, Cindy Mynatt, and I decided to form the Corncob Queens. Jill came into town for a book signing at B&N and we decided to dress up for the occasion. Cindy entered the store in a slinky leopard print evening gown and I, unfortunately, having nothing slinky except my walk, brought a jug of Mambo Margaritas and cups. Before signing her books, Jill did her wonderful routine which included among other things, how to wear a clip-on ponytail.

I know there are a lot of alcoholic drinks in my collection of recipes, but I was a barmaid (different from a cocktail waitress) in my well spent youth. Barmaids often have to make most of the drinks. Now, unfortunately, I'll never drink alcohol again because of all the meds I take. I don't want to blow out my liver. But I did want to include my former most enjoyable ones.

  • 1 (12 oz.) can frozen limeade concentrate

  • 6 to 12 oz. tequila

  • 3 (12 oz.) Mexican-style beers, such as Corona

  • Ice

  • Lime slices for garnish

In a pitcher, stir together the limeade and tequila until well-combined. Add the beers. Pour into individual glasses over ice; garnish with lime slices.
